8 Important Steps Taken by İzocam to Protect the Environment!

İzocam, the leading brand that introduced environmentally friendly and healthy insulation to Turkey 58 years ago, stands by the world with every step it takes! İzocam, which supports the natural by being inspired by nature, draws attention to the activities it carries out to protect the environment on "June 5 - World Environment Day". Here are 8 important steps taken by İzocam to protect the environment:

1- Reducing its carbon footprint with the goal of becoming carbon neutral:

İzocam, which has prevented the release of 650 million tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere with the insulation products it has produced since the day it was founded, started to implement many projects that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, limit water consumption and wastewater generation, adapt alternative raw material sources to production processes, and contribute to the circular economy, with a view to becoming carbon neutral by 2050. İzocam, which implements recycling and efficiency projects by establishing energy monitoring systems in its stone wool and glass wool production facilities, replaced its lighting fixtures in all its facilities with environmentally friendly ones, again with the aim of reducing energy use. In addition, İzocam has reduced its emission levels well below European standards with the improvements it has made in its needle type glass wool products designed especially for furnace manufacturers.

2- Equipping all its facilities with "Basic Level Zero Waste Certificate"

İzocam, which reflects its approach in waste management to its facilities, operates with a "Basic Level Zero Waste Certificate" in all its facilities. The first İzocam facility to receive this certificate was the Tarsus Facility in July 2021, followed by other facilities, all of which have obtained this certification, as of 2022. This certificate, which is issued by the T.R. Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, indicates that a series of processes have been completed at the facility, including the prevention of wastes at a basic level, the more efficient use of resources, the prevention or minimization of waste generation by reviewing the causes of waste generation, and the collection and recycling of waste separately at the source in case of occurrence.

3- Utilizing “seventh natural resource” up to 80% in its production

Our world now calls recyclable wastes as the “seventh natural resource” after air, water, coal, oil, natural gas and minerals. Although the laws in our country do not require it, İzocam attaches importance to producing products that use recyclable materials, do not harm human health and are proven to be environmentally friendly. İzocam, which uses recycled materials called the "seventh natural resource" up to 80% in its production, serves sustainability with its products with at least 30% recycled content, while reusing the production wastes in producing its products.

4-  Enabling the buildings using its products to obtain green building certificates with the content of its products

The recycled materials used in the production of İzocam stone wool and glass wool products enables the buildings where these products are used to obtain green building certificates such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) - BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) certificates and the YeS-TR certificate developed within the scope of our National Green Certificate System.

5-  Offering mineral wool products equipped with EUCEB certificate

İzocam glass wool and stone wool insulation products, which contain environmentally friendly materials, are among the best-known and most reliable products in the world. İzocam is the first company in the insulation sector to have the EUCEB certificate, which proves that the fibers that penetrate the body through the skin and respiration are removed harmlessly from the body.

6- Offering HBCD-free XPS ve EPS products

Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD), which is defined as a permanent organic pollutant, is used as a flame retardant additive to delay polymer ignition and slow down the possible fire formation. The use of HBCD in polystyrene-based extruded polystyrene (XPS) and expanded polystyrene (EPS) products has been banned in our country as of November 2019. For this reason, it is important to check whether the XPS and EPS products being purchased are in fact 'HBCD-free'. All İzocam XPS and EPS products are produced within the framework specified by the laws in a way that will not harm the environment and human health.

7- Renewing the packaging of its products in an environmentally friendly way
İzocam continues to redesign its packaging, emphasizing its contribution to the global goals set by the United Nations (UN) for Sustainable Development, expressing its sensitivity to human health and the environment. In this context, İzocam first redesigned the packaging of its glass wool and stone wool products to express its sensitivity to human health and the environment. In order to achieve an environmentally friendly packaging, less paint was used in the new semi-transparent white packaging and packaging sizes and the amount of packaging were rearranged. Finally, the packaging of İzocam Foamboard was renewed in a way to emphasize its contribution to the global goals set by the United Nations for Sustainable Development, resulting in an environmentally friendly packaging.

8- Focusing on environment and nature in its social responsibility activities

Aiming to make the world a better home with its motto of “İzocam is behind sustainable tomorrows”, İzocam focuses on the environment, waste management and recycling in its social responsibility projects as well as its products and facilities. Acting with the mission of leading a "good life" and pioneering "sustainable tomorrows", İzocam undersigned an important project last year in order to further signify the importance of insulation for our future to the public. In cooperation with Sailmaster, İzocam decided to change its course to the seas and established the İzocam Sailing Team. In order to draw attention to the marine pollution caused by terrestrial waste in the past months, İzocam undersigned a project in cooperation with Deniz Temiz Derneği (Clean Sea Association)/Turmepa (Turkish Marine Environment Protection Association)” and “Aktif Balık Adamlar Spor Klubü Derneği (Active Aquanauts Sports Club Association)”, and removed a total of 35 kilograms of waste from the sea and transferred these wastes to recycling facilities within the scope of the coastal and seabed cleaning event held on the Istanbul Bebek coast.
