The way to create healthy living quarters by preventing the growth of mould and bacteria in summer houses is to “İzocam” all the way.
Insulation plays a key role for the
maintenance of summer houses.
Not skimming on building insulation when renovating summer houses prevents mould and bacteria growth, and prevents inside temperatures from increasing, resulting in a cooler and more comfortable living space and decreasing the energy consumption.
As the summer is nearing an end and the bans on renovation in summer holiday regions are being lifted one by one, the efforts to prepare summer buildings for the winter as well as the preparations for the next summer are gaining momentum. Therefore, renovation and improvements for summer houses are among the top items on the agenda of many families. Summer houses, which lack the sufficient protection in winter, usually wear down with the harsh winter conditions seen at humid regions and need to be renovated almost every year. İzocam informs home-owners that thanks to insulation, the life of summer houses can be extended, maintenance will not be required every year, and the indoor temperatures can be maintained for a long time. For the more planned construction and better protection of summer houses, it is possible to prevent the growth of mold and bacteria in the winter and keep the houses cool in the summer with the process “insulation” that is placed on the top.
While the energy consumed by the insulation applications made in summer buildings or buildings in hot climatic zones is saved, the facades and roof surfaces that form the building envelope are protected from the negative effects of the external atmospheric conditions and the buildings are made to last longer. Humidity occurs in summer houses that are not used for a long time due to differences in indoor and outdoor temperatures. Humidity brings along anti-hygienic formations such as moisture, mold and fungus. These negativities that may occur in the summer houses must be prevented for hygiene and comfort of the indoor environment. With the application of insulation, building elements are protected, heat bridges are eliminated and moisture, mold and fungus that may growth on the ceiling and walls due to moisture and condensation can also be prevented.
In our country, the term “thermal insulation” brings to mind the measures against the cold alone, and thermal insulation is usually regarded unnecessary or not cared about enough in hot climates. However, because the cooling process is more costly than the heating process in the dog days, insulation in hot climate is much more important than insulation in the cold climate. The air conditioners working continuously in summer houses which are not insulated or insulated with insufficient thickness cause high energy consumption and increase in electricity bills. The use of “much thicker” insulating material allows for a proportional increase in savings without increasing the comfort provided and other costs in the system.
Noting that summer houses, which are inhabited during only a period of the year, need insulation more and that the condition, which the house where people live is in, bears a definite impact on them leading a healthy and good life, Doruk Özcan Assistant General Manager at İzocam said: “The conditions in our homes are extremely important not only for physical health but for our mental health and peace. With the right planning, it can be more comfortable living quarters and make it sustainable. For example; the summer houses, which have been abandoned during the winter, are more affected by the negativity of the winter and the outdoor conditions that vary over a wide temperature range. Roof slope can be occurred due to rain, some walls can absorb water in, and homes can stay like that for a long time. In addition to increasing repair and maintenance costs, these situations cause damage that cannot be solved at homes. The best solution against the unfavourable situations is to insulate all exterior walls using İzocam Mantle Boards all around as per TS-825 Standard for the Rules of Thermal Insulation in Buildings, and to insulate inclined roofs using İzocam Rulopan or İzocam Stone Wool Roof Mattress depending on whether the loft is used, and to use a system consisting of İzocam Foamboard thermal insulation board (XPS) and waterproofing for flat terrace roofs. Insulation will prevent structures elements from enduring a wide temperature range throughout the year and throughout the day, eliminating possible structural damages resulting from thermal stresses.”
Özcan said: “Thick insulation reduces the energy consumption resulting from the use of air conditioning in the summer. A house which is located in Bodrum, Antalya or Cesme needs as much insulation as those in Istanbul. When we look at the insulation thickness, these values vary according to the locations of province, even districts. For example, in a summer house located in Datça, insulation must be made at least 6 cm on the walls and at least 10 cm on the roofs as per the current local regulations. These thicknesses also apply to other districts such as Fethiye, Datca, Marmaris and Gokova which are the apple of summer’s eye. In order to achieve higher energy efficiency and better indoor conditions, the thick insulation made according to the seasonal conditions must be installed in accordance with the regulations and even above the thickness determined by these regulations. With this thick insulation applied, full protection can be provided and summer houses offering more comfortable, healthier and better living conditions can be possessed.”
