The finalists of İzocam’s student contest are off to Milan

The results are in on the 19th İzocam Student Contest which İzocam holds as part of its social responsibility efforts and which offers university students great opportunities. Out of the 14 project entries, 5 made it to the finals. 

The jury named the project prepared by Öykü Nur Acıcan and Eren Güney, students of the Department of Architecture at ODTU, first, “Porti-co” project presented by Büşra İnce and Ayşegül Erçin, students of the Department of Urban Design at ODTU, second, and “Crescenzago Website project” designed by Elif Şencal, a student of the Department of Architectural Design at Gazi University, and Nilay Nida, a student of the Department of Urban Design at ODTU, third.

The top three projects qualified for the chance to attend the international contest to be held in Milan, Italy.

The results are in on the 19th İzocam Student Contest. The Student Contest, which is held by İzocam as part of its social responsibility efforts with a different theme ever year, has been concluded. The subject city of the 19th edition of the contest is Milan. 

Students designed projects to rejuvenate and enliven the Crescenzago metro station and connect it to the city in line with the #milano2030 vision.  The contest, which followed the format “From Idea to Project” and which is open to all university students regardless of their faculty or department, was managed on www.izocamogrenciyarismasi.com. 

For the contest, students created a vision for the sustainable development and the future of Crescenzago metro station in line with the vision #milano2030 and considered the local conditions and the city’s development to develop an architectural design idea, and turned their ideas into concept projects. The contestants submitted their concept projects digitally by 10 March 2019. 14 projects were submitted in the first stage of this contest and assessed by the members of the jury in a closed session held on March 12. The five finalist projects designated at this assessment went on to the second stage of the project, namely the national finale. 

 

The 5 teams, who made it to the national finale, uploaded their detailed and specifications-compliant design sheets, which they developed in line with the insight offered by the jury, on izocamogrenciyarismasi.com. On 1 May 2019, the finalists presented the final version of their projects at the open jury gathering at Levent Hyatt Centric.

 

The entries were assessed and the results were announced on the same day: “Modula(R)esidence” project prepared by Öykü Nur Acıcan and Eren Güney, students of the Department of Architecture at ODTU, came first, “Porci-co” project presented by Büşra İnce and Ayşegül Erçin, students of the Department of Urban Design at ODTU, came second, and “Crescenzago Website project” designed by Elif Şencal, a student of the Department of Architectural Design at Gazi University, and Nilay Nida Can, a student of the Department of Urban Design at ODTU, came third.

 

The jury, which consisted of qualified academics and expert architects, contributed to both the contest and the students’ development with the active role they played and their selfless actions. Prof. Abdurrahman Kılıç, a faculty member at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of ITU, H. Architect Durmuş Dilekçi from the company Dilekçi Mimarlık, Assisstant Prof. Gülten Manioğlu, a faculty member at the Faculty of Architecture of ITU, H. Architect Hakan Demirel from the company Suyabatmaz-Demirel Mimarlık, Prof. Mehmet Çalışkan, a faculty member at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of ODTU, and Dr. Kemal Gani Bayraktar, Marketing Director at İzocam were on the elite jury of İzocam’s 19th Student Contest. 

 

The teams that made it to top three in the national contest received prizes of 8 thousand TL, 6 thousand TL and 4 thousand TL respectively and also qualified for the opportunity to represent our country and compete for the international prize at the international finale to be held in Milan on 5-8 June 2019

The prize pool for the international stage of the contest is as follows: 1,500 € for the first place, 1,000 e for the second place, 750 € for the third place and a student’s prize of 500 €.
