Sound Insulation Is a Need, Not a Luxury...

Sound insulation minimizes the adverse effect of noise, ensures comfort in the environment and protects mental health. Hearing undesired noises can lead to a number of serious health problems including hearing impairment, stress, sleep disorders, high blood pressure and heart diseases. Insulation in the entire building or in individual apartments results in a silent environment which increases our motivation, allows us to enjoy our reading time and ensures the comfortable environment that we all desire.  Noises from the neighbours, car honks, an after-school chaos or noises from a workplace in the next building… What if we told you that there is actually an easy way not to hear the unwanted noises in daily life? Considering the comfort and peaceful environment at home, "insulation" is the only solution for soundproofing, although it seems a bit difficult process at first.

Stop the neighbours’ noise with sound insulation…

Izocam Deputy General Manager Responsible for Marketing and Sales, Fatih Oktem points out that correct and thick insulation makes stopping undesired noises possible: “When purchasing or renting a house, it is important to find out whether it has proper insulation… More people who look for an apartment ask for insulation, more buildings will be ‘applied with accurate and thick insulation with the accurate detail.’  In some houses, with paper-thin walls, you can hear the noise of the street and the next apartment. Lack of sound insulation prevents protection of privacy in the house. Especially in winter days where we spend more time at home, noises from our neighbours are unbearable to take. But the real source of these noises is floors and walls that are not soundproof.  Noises in apartments may sometimes be very disturbing and they prevent privacy of domestic life." ”

Correct application of insulation should be considered when constructing buildings, however, avoiding some of the noises is possible by applying insulation after the construction. Neighbours’ noises can also be avoided with insulation. Having a composite structure with gypsum board on one side and stone wool board on the other, Stone Wool Kalibel can be used to insulate the noise coming from the neighbour´s walls.  Similarly, İzocam Optimum Glass Wool Boards, with their specific supplementary profiles, play an important role to obtain comfortable environments by reducing sound permeability through the construction elements in wall, roof and partition applications.  Stone Wall Floating Floor Board reduces permeability of vibration and talking sounds while ensuring thermal insulation between the floors. Using stone wall floating floor system between flats ensures protection from neighbours´ noises and not to disturb them with the noise from your apartment...

Sound insulation is the solution for the outside noises...

Noise pollution, resulted from the daily life routines especially in large urban areas, is one of the factors affecting the comfort.  Distraction and lack of concentration are caused by the outside noises at home or at work. But with an effective exterior thermal insulation, you can avoid the outside noises… İzocam Manto Exterior Thermal Insulation Composite Systems are a significant part of the insulation and can be applied with different products. Required insulation material changes depending on building’s characteristics.  External thermal insulation with mineral wools also ensures sound insulation. In external thermal insulation applied with Curtain Walls, stone wall İzocam Cephepan provides an effective insulation with low thermal conductivity and high sound absorption while being a non-combustible system.

Izocam Deputy General Manager Responsible for Marketing and Sales, Fatih Oktem says, “Today, people often are disturbed and complain about the noise. At home, we suffer from various environmental noises including noises coming from the neighbours, noises of vehicles and people outside. Although thermal insulation is the first type of insulation one thinks of, sound insulation should not be ignored.  Sound insulation ensures noise saving the same way thermal insulation provides economic saving.  Because it reduces the volume of some noises that we don’t want to hear. At this point, contractors play a major role.”

On the other hand, contrary to the common belief, foam materials do not provide sound insulation. Extruded Polystyrene boards (XPS), Expanded Polystyrene boards (EPS) and Polyurethane boards only contribute to thermal insulation; but they don’t offer an effective result for sound insulation. It should be remembered that the best materials for sound insulation are the mineral wool range insulation boards with open pores including Stone Wool and Glass Wool.

Having entered into effect in 2005, “Assessment and Management of Environmental Noise Directive” was revised in 2010. EU adjustment to the regulation is an on-going process. Sound insulation is required in industrial zones, busy traffic areas and entertainment venues with high level of noise. It is equally important to protect our living spaces from internal and external noises... Maximum allowable noise values in indoors during day and night are defined in the regulation while mineral-based stone wool and glass wool products contribute to development of sustainable details.
