Fire Protection Should Not Be Ignored Appropriate Precautions Should Be Taken Through Insulation

One of the solutions provided by insulation is “Fire Protection”… Recent opportunities such as rapid housing, new projects, Urban Transformation can be quite beneficial for Fire Protection. Loss of lives and property in fires caused by unplanned urbanization in particular can be minimized. For this, “Regulation on Protection of Buildings against Fire” should be complied with, correct insulation should be installed by capable individuals, and an insulation expert should be consulted...

In order to avoid unfortunate events, prevent loss of lives and property, a building should have fire protection above all.  Fire protection, in turn, is possible through insulation. Efficient insulation systems applied from floors to roof, walls to instalments during construction provide safety and contribute to energy saving.

For the insulation to be applied for fire protection; using the correct material in correct positions, remembering the fact that thick insulation is much more effective, system integrity, assigning competent and qualified individuals for the instalment of products are very important factors. Compliance with the insulation stages stated in “Regulation on Protection of Buildings against Fire” is obligatory.

Izocam General Manager Nuri Bulut says, “People who would like to purchase a house or insulate their current house or building have great responsibility here and our society needs to be aware of it. It is important that they question the insulation details of the building, whether it has fire protection…Those wanting to insulate their current building or flat should make an extensive research on the positive effects of insulation on fire protection and use the services of expert and experienced firms to prevent possible problems in the future.”

Obligation to apply A1 class “stone wool” in high buildings has been amended…

As thermal insulation varies depending on regions, fire insulation too varies depending on the height and location of buildings. The form of insulation that should be applied in a high building and a low building should be evaluated by insulation experts. For example, with the recent change in the regulation, the obligation to apply “stone wool” for buildings with 7 floors or more, is now required for buildings 28.5 m or higher.

Insulation applied to building facades and in between floors with class A1 stone wool buys some extra time in case of fire. Fire can quickly get out of control in a building with no insulation, whereas a building insulated with stone wool does not catch fire and emit smoke. It avoids the smoke interaction, which is one of the most important points in case of a fire. Also, more time is provided to escape and for fire-fighters to arrive.

Izocam General Manager Nuri Bulut, “Stone wool should be indispensible for exterior surfaces, especially in high buildings, jacketing and insulation. In case plastic products are used, fire barriers must be used. Glass wool, another A class material, can be used safely for jacketing surfaces.  What I want to underline is that regulations alone cannot be sufficient to apply fire precautions completely, correct design with correct material and application are also needed.”

Stone wool is created by melting inorganic raw materials, obtained domestically, into fibres at 1350°C - 1400°C. Stone wool can be produced in different sizes and technical qualities, with covering materials as sheet, plates, pipes and casts, depending on usage locations and purposes. Depending on the product type, usage temperature is between -50/+650°C. Melting point is >1000°C.  Uncovered Stone wool products are within A1 class (non-flammable material) according to TS EN 13501-1.

Urban Transformation is an important opportunity to construct buildings with full fire protection…

Following Urban Transformation, rebuilding the current building stock began to be discussed. Similar to many necessities of planned urbanization, this is a great chance for insulation as well… Also, Urban Transformation is a subject that deserves more attention as it means renewing of the existing structures. Because building can be renewed but street structure and existing housing around the buildings can not. This is why the fire protection of buildings located in rebuilding regions in Urban Transformation process should be taken more seriously.

In addition, to stop fire from spreading and to minimize the damage, fire barriers definitely should be placed in the main construction of the building and between floors or to places relevant experts identify. Using mineral wools such as glass wool and stone wool is also very important especially for high buildings and curtain wall applications. For these to happen, Urban Transformation is a great opportunity… Important thing is to see this and complying with the regulations strictly by activating all inspection and control mechanisms.

Newly developed InWall provides high level of fire protection…

Developed in cooperation of Izocam and Rigips, InWall provides high level of fire protection.  InWall Partition Wall Systems provide maximum benefit in terms of fire protection, in addition to the advantages of conventional partition wall systems such as aesthetics, easy application, acoustic comfort, lightweight, noise and thermal insulation. InWall Partition Wall Systems have qualities suitable especially for crowded locations such as offices, schools, hotels, malls and hospitals; they also provide protection up to 90 minutes.

Stating that InWall is very effective for fire protection, Nuri Bulut says, “In order prevent fire from spreading and to minimize the damage, fire barriers must be created between the main construction of the building and volumes or in locations specified by experts. Newly developed partition wall system InWall is a system that provides high level of fire safety in the walls without load-bearing feature. Especially in the buildings accommodating many people, use of InWall buys extra time in case of fire. It minimizes the risk of losing life and property.”

Izocam reduces the risk of fire in roofs…

Leading the sector with its experience in stone wool panel applications, İzocam buys time during fire, provides the chance to escape from possible devastating damages thanks to its Izocam Tekiz Stone Wool Roof Panel with “REI 120 Fire Resistant Certificate”.  Using Izocam Tekiz Stone Wool Roof Panel on areas with high fire risk such as factories, workplaces, malls and restaurants provide high fire protection.

Certified Izocam Tekiz panels offer efficient solutions for fire protection…

Working on fire protection issue and developing its products against possible fires, Izocam protects against fire with its Izocam Tekiz Stone Wool Facade Panels with “EI60 and E120 Fire Resistant” certification. The mineral wool filling in the panels not containing environmentally hazardous substance provides effective solutions for high fire resistance, sound and thermal insulation. The mineral wool insulated roof and façade panels are manufactured as both faces are covered with sheet metal.
