In summer months when we leave our doors and windows open, noises coming from the street and our neighbors’ houses become unbearable. However, the real source of the noises coming from next door is the sound permeable walls and the floors... Noises in flats sometimes become very irritating and rule out the domestic privacy.
Izocam Deputy General Manager Responsible for Marketing and Sales Fatih Öktem points out that it’s possible to avoid undesirable noises by applying accurate and thick insulation: “What is important here is to ask questions about the insulation while buying or renting a house. As people who are looking for a house demand asks good insulation more often, it will be resulted in houses and buildings that are accurately insulated with thick insulation and correct details.”
Neighbor noises, car horns, maybe chaotic noises of the end of a school day, noises coming from the workplace next door… There is a way to not hear those undesirable sounds in daily life. Even though it looks like a difficult process at first, “insulation” is the only solution considering the comfortable and peaceful atmosphere it will bring along.
Sound insulation provides a comfortable environment and protects mental health by minimizing harmful effects of noises. Undesirable noises can cause serious health problems such as hearing problems, stress, sleep disturbances, high blood pressure and heart conditions. Silence that is provided throughout the building and flats by insulation sometimes increases work motivation or pleasure of reading a book and ensures the comfortable environment we’ve always wanted.
Izocam Deputy General Manager Responsible for Marketing and Sales Fatih Öktem says: “Noises decreasing labor productivity and transmitting from one place to another can cause undesirable situations. The main purpose of sound insulation is to minimize noises. Sound can travel from one place to another by several ways. Sound’s passing through a section can be decimated by stopping the noise in a certain extent and taking specific precautions. Various ambient noises such as noises coming from the neighbors and horn noises from outside may actually be heard inside the houses. The best solution to avoid the noises coming from the neighbors is sound insulation that is applied to floor planks and walls.”
Öktem also states that noise is the primary source of disturbances and complaints in today’s world and adds: “Thermal insulation comes to mind when you think about the insulation, but sound insulations should not be ignored. As thermal insulation ensures economic savings, sound insulation saves on noises; because it lowers the noises that we don’t want to hear. Contractors play a huge role in this point.”
Attention should be paid to the correct practice of insulation during construction but it’s also possible to get rid of some noises later. Noises coming from the neighbors is one of them. Stone wool Kalibel board, which has a composite structure whose one side is gypsum board covered stone wool board, can be used to insulate noises coming from neighbor wall side. Similarly, Izocam Optimum glass wool board reduce sound permeability of construction elements by its specific supplementary profiles in ceiling and cross partition applications and plays a huge role in providing comfortable places. Stone wool Floating Floor Board reduces permeability of vibrations and talking sounds through floor along with providing inter-floor thermal insulation.
Precautions must be taken regarding the floor planks during sound insulation in neighborhoods. It’s possible to both avoid noises coming from the neighbors and stop disturbing them by the application of stone wool floating floor system. It’s wrong information that foam materials can be used for sound insulation. Materials like extruded polystyrene foam (XPS), expanded polystyrene foam (EPS) and polyurethane foam only contribute to thermal insulation. They are not a good choice for sound insulation. However, mineral wool boards like Stone wool and Glass wool are the best materials for it.
“Assessment and Management of Environmental Noise Directive” became valid in 2005 for sound insulation. EU adjustment program continues in the directive that is revised in 2010 and it demands sound insulation especially in industrial region, heavy traffic areas and entertainment venues where noise exceeds limits. It’s also important to protect spaces we live in from internal and external noises. Top noise level that is allowed at night and day in indoors is stated in the directive; glass wool and stone wool products that are based on mineral wools make contributions to develop sustainable details to match these values.
